About Us

The Taupo District covers 6,350 km² of land, from the town of Mangakino in the northwest to the Tongariro National Park in the south, and east into the Kaingaroa Forest
The local iwi in the Taupo district are Ngati Tuwharetoa captured in the whakatauki or proverb
Ko Tongariro te maunga
Ko Taupo te moana
Ko Ngāti Tuwharetoa te iwi
Ko te Heuheu te tangata.
Tongariro is the sacred, ancestral mountain
Taupo is the ancestral lake
Ngāti Tuwharetoa are the people who are affiliated with these lands
Te Heuheu is our esteemed leader.
All three libraries in Taupo District are governed by the Taupo District Council.
Taupo district libraries are made up of three libraries, Taupo library located on Story Place a stones throw from the Lake, Turangi library located right in the center of Turangi township and Mangakino library located at the Mangakino town center on Rangatira Drive.
