Q. How do I join the Library?
 
A. If you are a ratepayer or resident of Taupō District, simply bring photo I.D and a letter less then one month old with your name and current address to any of our three Libraries, fill out an application and pay a $1.50 charge for the card and we can sign you up on the spot! Membership entitles you to use Mangakino, Taupō and Turangi Libraries. For more information see our Membership page.

Q. How can I give you feedback on the libraries?

A. We would love to hear about your visit, either to one of our libraries or our website. Simply fill in our feedback form.

Q. How do I get a PIN for My Account? 

Either Contact Us or ask a member of our staff to set up your pin number.

Q. How do I renew an item?

A. You can renew your books by contacting us or renew online by logging into Your Account. Check out our tips on How to login to your Library Account.

Items can be renewed once as long as they have not been requested by another person. Please note, there is no charge for renewing free items, but for CDs, DVDs and Hot Picks you will be charged for them again.

Q. How do I reserve an item? 

A. To request items Contact Us or, if you have a library account pin number, you can request books online. Just Search the Catalogue for the book you want, click request item and enter your library card barcode and pin number to login. See our How To Search and Login page for more information.

Q. How do I find material available from Taupō District Libraries?
 
A. Books, DVDs, CDs and online database resources available from all three libraries can be searched via our Online Catalogue. Check out our tips on How to Search.

Q. What should I do if I can't find a book?
 
A. Have a chat to one of our friendly staff, we can help you find the book you are looking for, or if we are unable to find it, offer alternatives that may suit.

Q. Can I get access to other libraries?
 
A. You can access items held by Mangakino, Taupō and Turangi Libraries and return your items to any of these three libraries.

Q. Can I obtain items that are not held by the Library?
 
A. Items from other New Zealand Libraries can be obtained through the interloan system. The standard interloan charge is $8 but this varies depending on the lending library. Just Contact Us or fill in an interloan form when you are in the library. 

Q. How do I find information on a subject?
 
A. Either ask a friendly librarian who is happy to help or if you prefer to do it yourself you can use the online catalogue to find information on a specific subject.

Q. Can someone show me how to research a topic?
 
A. Absolutely. We have staff on hand to show you the resources we have specially designed for researching topics.

Q. How many items can I borrow?
 
A. The current limit for items is 40.

Q. How long can I borrow items for?

A. Borrowing periods are as follows:
    Books: 4 Weeks.
    CDs: 4 Weeks.
    Magazines: 2 Weeks.
    Hot Picks: 2 Weeks.
    DVDs: 1 Week.
We will always offer you a slip with the return dates on it when you take items out.

Q. What is the Short Loan Collection?
 
A. This collection is made up of books that are very popular and have many holds on them so the lending period has been shortened so the wait is not too long.

Q. Where can I return my Library items?

A. You can return library items to Mangakino, Taupō or Turangi Libraries. Each library also has an afterhours slot so you can return items at any time.

Q. Can I borrow books without my Library card?
 
A. To borrow Library items you will need either your Library Card or Photo ID such as your Driver's Licence.

Q. What should I do if I've lost my Library card?
 
A. Contact Us so your card cannot be used. There is a small charge to replace a lost card.

Q. Are there computers and internet access in the Libraries?
 
A. Yes, there are computers with broadband internet access and Microsoft Office available in all three libraries through the Aotearoa People's Network. Anyone can access the computers for free. We have a waiting list system and your session time will be limited if others are in the queue.

Q. Do you have Wifi access at Taupō District Libraries?

A. Yes, Taupō, Turangi & Mangakino Libraries have Wireless internet access through the Aotearoa People's Network. Access is free but data usage will be limited.  

Q. What electronic resources are available to me?
 
A. If you are a library member you can access the internet for free from our libraries. Electronic resources are also available though databases that we subscribe to. Ancestry is available free for Library Members, but only in the Library. Fundview, Breakout, Encyclopedia  

Q. Can I access electronic resources from off campus?
 
A. Ancestry and Corporate Citizens can only be accessed in the Library due to licence restrictions. All of our other databases can be accessed from home, school or the office by entering your full library barcode and PIN. Either Contact Us or ask a member of our staff to set up your pin number.

Q. Do I need a password to use electronic resources?
 
A. To use some of the electronic databases, both at home and in the library, you will need to enter your full library barcode and your PIN. Either Contact Us or ask a member of our staff to set up your pin number.

Q. How do I access Ancestry?

A. Ancestry can only be accessed in the Library via the Libraries Website due to licence restrictions. Please ask our staff for help.

Q. How do I access Fundview and Breakout?

A. Fundview and Breakout can be accessed via the Libraries Website by entering your full library barcode. 

Q. Where can I print out my work?
 
A. We have a colour printer/photocopier in each of our Libraries. Current costs are 20cents for a black and white A3 or A4 copy. $1.50 for an A4 colour copy, and $2 for an A3 copy.
