Korero Maori

Korero Maori is an interactive site for all learners and speakers of te reo Maori. There are interactive conversations, language resources, and advice to help you increase your knowledge of reo Maori. The Korero Maori website has been developed by Te Taura Whiri i te reo Maori – The Maori Language Commission to increase opportunities for people to learn and use the language.

This site focuses on aspects of Maori vocabulary and grammar. Register to receive emails, news feeds, or text messages on aspects of vocabulary, word groups, and grammatical features. The site also includes tests and information on macron use.

Maori Language Commission Te Taura Whiri i te reo Māori


A major voice of Maori language revitalisation, there are many useful language resources on this site. These include a map of place names in Aotearoa with sound clips, information on how to download macrons to your keyboard, orthographic conventions for the Maori language, and much more.

Idea's concepts people and place names all said clearly in Maori, and you can listen to how the words are said and learn new things about Maori and Maori culture. Great resource if you are not sure how to pronounce a word, or want some idea of the meaning of a word.

Te Karere Online

Te Karere is a television news programme that broadcasts Maori issues of national significance, in the Maori language. Programmes are subsequently archived for one week, and are then available on demand.

Te Kaea Online

Watch recent episodes of Te Kaea from Maori Television on their website. Each bulletin appears online the morning after it is first broadcast and is archived for seven days.

Waka Huia

Watch previous editions of Waka Huia on the TVNZ website. Waka Huia has a focus on collecting topics with an iwi focus and retaining these for future generations. There is also a link to the tribute to Dame Te Atairangikahu through the page to Marae.

He Rourou

Each week day Radio New Zealand broadcasts He Rourou, a short interview in Te Reo Maori on a variety of topics. These audio clips can be heard online from the website.
