Temporary road layout for ETA and SH5 intersection

MEDIA RELEASE

23 November 2009

A temporary new two-lane road is now in use to allow traffic to flow around the section of the Napier-Taupo Highway where the ETA construction is underway.

The two-lane deviation shifts traffic slightly to the south of the existing road ensuring minimal disruption to traffic flows during the construction period.

A temporary speed restriction of 30km will be in place, which will be raised to 50km during the Christmas break.

Project Manager Ron Boyle says the deviation is fully operational, after traffic was partially diverted over last weekend.

“We needed to wait a couple of days for the chip seal to settle enough for road markings to be applied before the new road was safe enough to operate at night. The diversion will be in place until late February 2010” he said.

Motorists are asked to adhere to the speed restriction, take care and follow directions at all times.
