Taupo Lakers make the Finals of Top Town

After competing in a nerve-racking semi-final last Sunday against Motueka and Ashburton, the Unison Taupo Lakers are through to the Top Town final, screening on Sunday 5 April.

Councillor and Lakers Coach, Councillor Mich’eal Downard said Taupo’s win came down to a combination of guts, determination and teamwork.  “The team pulled together again on Sunday and delivered the goods - they have done this community proud.  Come and join us on finals night to see whether they can take away the overall competition and prove Taupo is New Zealand’s Top Town,” he said.

A FREE community party is being held at Taupo’s AC Baths on Sunday 5 April, from 5pm onwards and will include a Mr T dress up competition, a junior top town, a sausage sizzle, lolly scrambles, giveaways, swimming and more!  A big screen will be provided so everyone can watch the final together.  Bring your togs and towel and a picnic.

Mayor Rick Cooper says everyone is invited and encourages young and old to come down and join the team for the big finale!

Naming sponsors of the Taupo Lakers, Unison – the Powerlines People are very excited that the Lakers have gotten this far and will be will be attending and supporting the community party.  “Go the Unison Taupo Lakers - show us Taupo is really the Top Town in New Zealand,” said Unison’s Community Relations Manager Danny Gough.

The second semi final is being held this Sunday between Whakatane, Queenstown and Christchurch to determine who will join the Taupo Lakers in the final.
