Summer Snaps winners capture summer in Taupo

The winners of the Taupo District Council’s Summer Snaps competition captured what summer in Taupo is all about.

The competition, which called for the best photos or videos of summer in Taupo, received over 40 entries including its first video entry. Judges were impressed with the range and quality of photos entered, most focussing on our great lake.

1st place winner Anna Watson of Hamilton was delighted and surprised when the picture of her son Juaan and nephew Van was selected as the winning photo. Judges not only thought the baby cousins were adorable, but that sitting on the beach at Wharewaka Point with Mt Tauhara in the background truly captured the essence of a Taupo summer. Anna wins an 8GB Apple iPod Nano.

2nd place getter Kerry Stephens’ entry also incorporates the iconic mountain, however the shot was taken from the top looking down. Friend Craig and his son Griffin on top of Mt Tauhara on the 1st day of the 1st month for 2010. Photo taken by Kent Skellern. 

3rd place winner Shane Finlayson’s photo of friend in an inflatable boat towing the all important chilly-bin caught the judges attention with its typically Kiwi attitude to lazy days spent on the lake.

Both Kerry and Shane win a Cliffhanger Extreme Swing pass thanks to Taupo Bungee. Runners up took away family passes to the AC Baths, as well as a Taupo Events Centre Indoor Rock-climbing wall pass.
