Structure Plan open days successful

MEDIA RELEASE

09 February 2010

The district-wide information sessions and Taupo open days for the Draft Taupo Urban Commercial and Industrial Structure Plan have been successfully completed, but there is still time to have a look at the footprint of proposed building on the domain.

Project Manager Nick Carroll says that the recent open days informing people about the draft Taupo Urban Commercial and Industrial Structure Plan at the Great Lake Centre have been positive with a lot of people taking the opportunity to become better informed on the issues.

“During the first set of open days, which were held in December last year, a good number of those visiting were opposed to the new multi-purpose community facility on the domain - but were not all that interested in anything else,” he said.  “This time around there was a lot of interest in the other aspects of the plan as well as some positive comments regarding the community facility.”

Mr Carroll said “although we have published the aerial view of the domain, we wanted to go that one step further to help people get a feel for the area that will be affected, so the footprint (approximate size and location of the proposed multi-purpose community facility) was marked out on the domain next to the Great Lake Centre.”

“This allows people to see for themselves what kind of area will be affected,” he said.  “This was so well received that we have decided to mark out the area again this Wednesday Thursday and Friday.  I really encourage people to pop down and have a look.”

He says the community seem a lot better informed now about the Structure Plan and how it will affect the future of Taupo.  “Its great that people have taken the time to find out more about the plan, now we need them to go that one step further and put in a submission before the deadline of 26 February.”
