MEDIA RELEASE
24 December 2009
Major improvements to the wastewater reticulation framework at Lowell Place, SH5 and the foreshore is expected to take place early next year.
During the period February to June 2010, Taupo District Council will be undertaking wastewater reticulation improvement works to upgrade the system performance and reliability in the vicinity of Lowell Place. The works include the sewer pipe line upgrade in the area from Lowell Place, the foreshore, Lake Terrace and SH5 intersection and along SH5 and Napier Road.
Survey work and geotechnical investigations were carried out in June this year, and the engineering design was completed in November. A contract has now been let to Spartan Construction to carry out the work which includes construction of a new wastewater pumping station in the Lowell Place carriageway, and the abandoning and backfilling the Lowell Place pump station on the lake foreshore. Modification of the Beach Haven pump station on the foreshore will also be required, as well as other auxiliary pipe-work.
Taupo District Council expects no major disruptions to the general public or traffic using the state highways; however reconnection of sewer lines on some homes in the area will be necessary. Affected residents have been advised of the works.
