Replacement of flagstones postponed
Due to unforeseen delays with the delivery of materials, the start date for the replacement of flagstones with Holland pavers in Tuwharetoa Street, has been deferred to 4 May 2009 (instead of 20 April). The work will take a month to complete.
CEO Rob Williams says this follows work undertaken during 2007 to address amenity and pedestrian safety issues on the northern side of the street. “We had a situation where the flagstones on the northern side of the street, where all the bars and restaurants are situated, needed replacing urgently so we brought the work forward. I’m now happy to report the Holland pavers are performing well and we can complete the job.”
Mr Williams says the work will be carried out by Fulton Hogan Ltd, who worked on the previous upgrade and the process followed will be the same.
“Flagstones will be uplifted and replaced progressively and pedestrian access to the shops will be maintained during normal business hours. Every effort will be made to minimise the disruption caused by the works, however we are asking the public and local businesses to please be patient while the upgrade is underway.”
Personnel from both Council and Fulton Hogan Ltd will be in close liaison with one another and with the businesses on Tuwharetoa Street as work along the street proceeds. The works will begin at the Tongariro Street end.
