Record nominations for Youth Awards

Taupo District Council have received record nominations for the annual Taupo Times District Youth Awards. 

The Taupo Times District Youth Awards provide an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate our local youth who are achieving in four different fields – sports, arts, academic and leadership.  It is broken into 3 age groups, years 7 & 8, 9 to 11, and 12 & 13.  The competition is in its sixth year. 

Already this year 178 young people have been nominated for the award.  Councillor Mich’eal Downard, who is a member of the judging panel, said “We are pleased to have so many nominees, it just goes to show what talented young people we have in this district.” 

Entries are now closed, and successful nominees are being contacted to attend the awards evening.  The 2009 Youth Awards Evening is being held on Monday 21 September at the Great Lake Centre, and nominees are encouraged to bring their friends and whanau along to celebrate.

Taupo District Council and the Community Support Team who are coordinating the event would like to thank the Taupo Times, Bayview Wairakei Resort, Smiths Sports Shoes, Le Pine and Co and Radioworks for their support in making this event a reality.
