Neighbourhood events getting people off the ground
MEDIA RELEASE

The competition winners from last month’s Our Neighbourhood event shared a life-changing experience as they jumped out of a plane last week, and organisers hope more neighbours will be brought together at this Friday’s event at Lakewood Reserve, Nukuhau.
Donna Short’s family won the overall games at the Parkdale Reserve event, taking away prizes including a tandem skydiving pass thanks to Taupo Tandem Skydive. Bronwyn Gribban was selected from the crowd to also receive a tandem skydive pass. Both women said the experience of being thrown out of a plane at 15,000 feet would be something neither of them would forget for a long time.
Strategic Relationships Manager Dylan Tahau says the pair did not know each other beforehand, but now having shared a life changing experience together he is sure they will become great friends.
This Friday’s event at Lakewood Park in Nukuhau will have all of the fun and games of the previous events. “We’ll have the bouncy castle back, lolly scrambles, egg throwing, and of course there will be a free sausage sizzle and live music. Everyone should come down and support your community by being a part of it,” says Mr Tahau. “And you never know what goodies we will be giving away next.”
The Our Neighbourhood events are designed to get people out of their comfort zones, and get close with their neighbours. Mr Tahau says the events have been very worthwhile. “We’ve had some really fun days in Turangi, and at Parkdale and Mere Rd Reserves. It’s been fabulous to see neighbours all coming together and having fun, and getting to know one another.”
Mr Tahau wishes to thank the Our Neighbourhood event partners and sponsors Taupo Tourism Holdings and Hirepool for helping to make these events happen.
More FM will advise on the day if the event is to be postponed.
