Midnight Youth in town for Youth Festival

Taupo’s very own Jayme Fitzgerald will join a host of great bands at what is being billed as “the biggest rock gig in Taupo ever!” at the Taupo Events Centre on 30 May.

The bands include Midnight Youth, SEIZEFIRE, A Kiss Goodbye and MC Mana & DJ Scribble (element).   A Kiss Goodbye, a young band out of Tauranga, are being sponsored by NZ Music Month and there will be giveaways at the gig.  Midnight Youth have toured with bands the Veronicas and INXS who said “they are one of the best bands they have toured with in Australasia.”

Taupo District Council Community Projects Officer Jenny Steadman says the free concert is just one of a huge range of exciting things planned for the Taupo Youth Festival which is running from 23 – 31 May.  “This week is going to be huge.  So many people have put up their hands to take part and really deliver what young people want, we’re sure we have something for everyone.”

As well as the rock concert, there are a range of activities and workshops.  Ms Steadman says, “there will be hip hop, cheerleading, modelling, percussion, highland dance and heaps more.  There is even a guitar hero competition that is sure to be a blast.”

She says people will have to register for some of the workshops so it will pay to get a copy of the programme and plan ahead “the hardest thing will be trying to fit everything in.”

The festival programme will be widely publicised and it can be downloaded from www.lame.co.nz or www.taupo.govt.nz

Some of the partners and sponsors involved include; NZ Music Month, Taupo Youth Arts Trust, Creative Taupo, Café for Youth Health, Active Arts, Taupo Library, Taupo Venues, Sport Waikato, REAP, Lion Foundation, More FM, The Edge, !@M3 and a youth reference group.
