Fun day in Turangi not just for the dogs
MEDIA RELEASE
8 January 2009
The Turangi SPCA and Taupo District Council are holding a “Dogs R Fun” day for Turangi dog owners at the Taupahi Reserve next Saturday, held in conjunction with the “Our Neighbourhood” community events, in which all the community are invited to come along and enjoy the fun.
All members of the community are encouraged to bring their families and furry best friends for a fun day outdoors, Saturday 16 January 2010 at the Taupahi Reserve, Taupahi Road starting at 10am. Turangi SPCA and Taupo District Council will be providing games and activities, a lolly scramble, pony rides, giveaways and more. A hangi and BBQ food will also be available.
Senior Animal Management Compliance Officer Cherry Hewitt says that the event is a time for dog owners to enjoy their pets in a fun and friendly environment. “Dogs are fantastic pets, and we should celebrate just how precious they are as a member of the family. We haven’t had anything like this in Turangi, so we thought it was about time.” Council ask that all dogs are well behaved and are kept on a lead at all times.
Strategic Relationships Manager Dylan Tahau says the event was the perfect excuse for the rest of the community to get together also. “We wanted to extend the ‘Our Neighbourhood’ events to Turangi, and we thought this would be the perfect partnership to combine it with the ‘Dogs R Fun’ day. We’d love to see everyone in the community bring their families down for a great day out, and get to know others in their neighbourhood.”
Turangi Tongariro Community Board Chairman Councillor Don Ormsby thinks the event is a great idea, and is long overdue for Turangi. “We’ve got a fabulous community down here, and I think it is only fitting that the Council should get behind it and encourage us all to get together in social settings like this. I’m really looking forward to it.”
