Landscape and Natural Values Plan Change (under appeal)

The purpose of this project is to review the landscape values and natural values provisions of the District Plan. The natural values section addresses issues associated with the Taupō District's significant natural areas including indigenous bush and native ecosytems, while the landscape value section addresses issues associated with the District's important and unique landscapes and features. Although landscape and natural values are addressed in separate parts of the District Plan, they are closely related therefore development of the plan changes will occur concurrently.

Taupō District Council has a requirement under the Resource Management Act 1991 [RMA] to identify areas of important landscape and significant natural value in the Taupō District, and protect them from inappropriate development. Council is currently working on identifying these areas, and will soon begin developing plan changes to meet this RMA requirement.
