Health Registration / Food Safety
Licensing
Certain businesses are required to be licensed under the Health Act. These include:
- Food Premises
- Hairdressers
- Funeral Directors
- Camping Grounds
- Houses or premises where health is of concern
Premises are inspected regularly and registered annually.
Prospective owners of new businesses are encouraged to prepare a plan of their proposed venture and discuss it with the Environment Health Officer before starting work. This could save you time and money further on in the construction process.

New Food Businesses
A booklet called "Getting Started In The Food Business" is available from the Environment Health Officer to assist anyone wanting information about requirements. To view this information click HERE.
Existing Businesses
If the business is existing we will have records of the standard of the premises, including copies of any requisitions that may have been written. If you were to buy a business that had an outstanding requisition, you would be liable for the cost of putting things right. This is likely to be an aggravation you do not need when starting out in business.
