What can I recycle?

Plastics with the recycle symbol or

Look for the recycle symbol on the bottom or side of plastic containers. If it has a 1 or 2 inside the recycle arrows, you can put it in the recycle bin.

  • Newspaper, cardboard, magazines, junk mail, envelopes and any other clean paper or cardboard.
  • Clean tin cans such as food cans and pet food cans.
  • Aluminium drink cans.
  • Whole glass jars and bottles. (No sharp edges please)

 

Rinse out your recyclables. An empty cardboard box can be used to hold extra recyclables. For the safety of your collector, please put glass recycling in the green bin only, as cardboard boxes can collapse.      

 

What looks like recycling but can’t be recycled?

  • Mixed paper (or cardboard) products such as waxed paper, carbon paper, milk or juice cartons.  These are paper mixed with plastics, wax or foil and are not recyclable.
  • Paper or cardboard with food scraps still attached are not recyclable.
  • Paint tins are not recyclable in your green bins. Well washed paint tins can be recycled at Broadlands Road and some of the District Transfer Stations.
  • Aerosols are not recyclable.
  • Broken glass and windows are not recyclable through your green bin.
  • Crystal and ceramics are not recyclable.

Green Bin Services

  • Put your recyclables at the kerb by 7:30am on your regular rubbish day.

  • Please label your bin with your street address.
  • If you move, please leave your green bin at your old address. There should be a bin at your new address.
  • For new residents, or for lost or stolen green bins there is no charge for a green bin.
  • Additional green bins, and green bins for businesses can be purchased for $10 each.

  • All the recyclables you put in your green bin
  • Greenwaste ($50.00 per tonne)
  • Domestic quantities of Waste Oil
  • Whiteware
  • Scrap Metal including well washed paint tins
  • Car Batteries
  • Car Bodies
  • Untreated Timber (if suitable for fire wood)
  • Paint
  • Agricultural Chemicals
  • Concrete ($10 per tonne)
  • Reusable Pre-Loved Goods
  • Most recycling is free but a charge may apply to some recyclable materials.
