The Local Government Rating Act (2002) limits public access to name and postal address information that Council holds for rating purposes. Currently, the public has access to Council’s rating information database but cannot view rate payment details or ratepayer name and postal address particulars. A recent change to legislation now requires that name and postal address details are made accessible to the public unless the property owner advises the Council in writing that they want the information withheld.
The name and postal address information became publicly available from December 31, 2005. Please note that the name and address information will only be made available at the offices of the Taupo District Council and that bulk collection of names and addresses is not permitted under the Act.
Ratepayers wishing to withhold their names and/or postal address information must notify the Council in writing. You may revoke your request at any time by written notice. If you have any queries please contact the Customer Service Centre at the Taupo District Council on (07) 376 0899.
Note: If you are happy for your details to appear in the rating information database no action is required on your part.
For more information call our Rates Hotline (07) 376 0628.
