- hazards affecting workplaces
- emergency procedures
All businesses should have emergency procedures to deal with chemicals and other hazards.
What to do in the event of a hazardous chemical emergency...
- listen to the radio and TV for advice
- do not evacuate unless told to. You may be safer where you are
- if there are fumes, move away and upwind if possible
- if you feel unwell or develop breathing difficulties visit your family doctor
If the hazard is OUTSIDE stay inside the building and immediately...
- close all doors and windows
- seal any gaps with towels or clothing
- turn off air conditioning
- wait for the "all clear"
If the hazard is INSIDE get out of the building...
- calmly and quickly
- move upwind if possible
- stay out until officials tell you it's safe to return
