Registration Form

It is a statutory requirement for all dogs in New Zealand to be registered by the age of three months. You must transfer your dog registration if you move to a new district and you are also required to advise your local authority of address changes or changes of dogs. Dog registration is renewed annually on July 1. Owners who do not register their dog(s) may be issued with an infringement.

Dog Registration Fees

	Registration Fees due 1st July

W	Working Dog Kept solely or principally for the purpose of driving or herding stock. Fee applies to the first 5 dogs registered by an owner, with any further working dogs registered by the owner in this registration year at a nil fee.	$48
B	Hunting or other Working dogs as per Dog Control Act 1996, Section 2 Owners of Hunting Dogs must provide proof of: • Current membership of a Hunting Club, or • Current Game Bird Licence, or • Current permit for purpose of locating or retrieving game This fee applies to a maximum of 3 dogs per owner	$48
S	Special Owner Dogs Dog owners that meet certain conditions may apply to be part of the Special Owner scheme. Requirements include the following: • All dogs over 3 months of age are registered • Dog(s) are kept in a dog proof fenced area that it's not necessary to enter to get to door of dwelling • There is no recent history of complaints such as barking, roaming, aggressive behaviour • Any kennelling is at least 3m from boundary fence • Application form for Special Owner scheme	$48

D	Dangerous Dog (150% of usual fee)	$127.50
	Dog registration fees are due on 1 July and if paid after 31 July will incur a 50% penalty fee. Puppies registered throughout the year are at a proportion of the above fees based on when the pup was 3 months of age. Owners may apply for a refund on the balance of the fees paid if their dog dies during the year. Replacement Dog Registration Tags are available for $5.00.
