Safe District Project
“Making Taupo District a Safer Place to Live, Work and Play”
Taupo District residents say they want a safe district, a place they can live free from crime, violence, abuse and injury; and where they are safe at home and in the community.
For this to happen the whole community has a role to play in the promotion of injury prevention, crime prevention, and road safety. And this includes you!
Taupo District is an accredited “International Safe Community” via the World Health Organisations accreditation process. As a community we need to work together and think about how you can make your district a safer place to live, work and play.
Think prevention: crime, injury and Road safety.
Please watch this page for different safety events and initiatives happening in YOUR community
Safety Initiatives Happening in YOUR community:
Taupo Violence Intervention Network (VIN) have been working hard with the support of the It’s not Ok Campaign to bring the campaign to the Taupo District.
Six billboards on roads leading into Taupo, Turangi and Mangakino will provide messages about keeping children safe and secure.
The billboard messages are:
-
Kids are safer when you're sober
-
Can't remeber last night? Your kids will
-
It's not OK ..... Ease up on the drink
-
Is drinking hurting your family?
Over the coming months please keep an eye out for billboards and remember “IT’S NOT OK TO BLAME THE DRINK”
